Lovísa was the daughter of Pétur Guðlaugsson Buch and Sigurbjörg Bjarnadóttir who came west in 1876. Guðmundur’s parents, Sólmundur Símonarson and Guðrún Aradóttir came west in 1885 and Guðmundur came with them. They first lived in Mikley in New Iceland but, after two years, they moved to Gimli. Guðmundur was a fisherman and ship’s captain of a fishing boat and transported fish on Lake Winnipeg for 32 years.
