Sigurður was the son of Sigbjörn Sigurðsson and Þuríður Benediktsdóttir, early Icelandic settlers in Minnesota in 1879. Magnína and Sigurður moved to N. Dakota and ran a farm in Longfellow Township, McLean County, in 1910. Sigurður was still living there in 1920, a widower with five young children.
