Magnús Gíslason was born October 12, 1830 in S. Þingeyjarsýsla. He died in the Lincoln County Settlement in Minnesota on May 28, 1883 from an accident while cutting firewood.

They emigrated west to Wisconsin in the United States in 1873 and lived there several years and were among the first Icelandic settlers in Shawano County. They moved to Minnesota in 1877 and settled in the Lincoln County Settlement, calling his farm Steinsstadir. Following Magnús’ death, Sigríður and son, Kristján, were living with the Gottskalk Thorkelsson family in Limestone Township, Lincoln County.
