They came west across the sea in 1887 to Winnipeg, Manitoba. Magnús worked on the railway for the first years but moved to the Þingvalla Settlement in Saskatchewan in 1891 where he took land. They lived there until 1905 but then sold that land and settled on another farm in the same settlement, and lived there the rest of their lives.
