Magnús came west to Winnipeg, Manitoba in 1886 with his parents and siblings. He grew up with them in the Hallson Settlement in N. Dakota and moved with them to the Lakes Settlement (Vatnabyggð) in Saskatchewan in 1905. He took land in the northern part of the Wynyard community and lived there. In 1936, he moved to Washington state and settled a little north of Blaine.
