Magnús Þórðarson was born in Ísafjarðarsýsla on January 10, 1869. He died at Stafholt in Blaine, Washington on August 13, 1961.

Magnús ws the son of Þórður Magnússon and Guðríður Hafliðadóttir from Hattardal in Ísafjarðarsýsla. The father and son came west to Manitoba in 1893 and settled in Baldur. From there Magnús’ path went west to the Pacific Ocean in 1902 and he lived there until his death. He worked in a store until 1915, then founded his own grocery store, which he ran until 1935. He was involved in town affairs, sitting on the town council 1926-1932. Then he was one of the founders of the Free Church Congregation and was its treasurer for the first few years.
