Málmfríður came west to Winnipeg, Manitoba in 1883 with her parents, Jón Hannesson and Ósk Þorleifsdóttir. They settled in Vestfold, Manitoba. Finnbogi came west to Winnipeg, Manitoba in 1883 with his parents, Þorgils Árnason and Jóhanna Narfadóttir, and siblings. They lived in Winnipeg a number of years, but then moved to the Lundar Settlement and took land in the area near Síbería. They left the settlement due to floods and moved closer to Lake Manitoba. They were there for a few years but then moved to Winnipeg where Finnbogi worked on construction with his brothers. At the turn of the century, they returned to the Lundar Settlement and settled near Vestfold.
