Margrét was the daughter of Sigurður Sölvason and Jóhanna Stefánsdóttir who came west in 1899 and settled near Mountain, N. Dakota. They moved to the Lakes Settlement (Vatnabyggð) in Saskatchewan in 1905 and lived near Wynyard. There Margrét met Þorfinnur as he had moved to the village in 1907 from N. Dakota with his parents. Margrét and Þorfinnur first lived near Mozart but then moved to Elfros. Þorfinnur was a farmer and a leader in the village from 1952.
