Friðrik and Mildfríður were on the same ship when they came west to Ontario, Canada in 1874. They lived in Kinmount for the first year and then moved to New Iceland in 1875. In 1879, they moved to N. Dakota and took land in the Pembina Mountains. From there they moved to the Lakes Settlement (Vatnabyggð) in Saskatchewan in 1906 and settled on land that their son Bjarni had chosen for them a year earlier. Their land was east of Wynyard.
