Oddur Oddsson was born in the Lakes Settlement (Vatnabyggð) in Saskatchewan.
He was the son of Magnús Oddsson who came west with his parents in 1887 and lived in N. Dakota. Oddur ran a hotel in the village of Tantallon, Saskatchewan, took land in the Hólar Settlement, but then moved to Langruth, Manitoba.
