Ólafur Björn Brynjólfsson was born in Húnavatnssýsla on August 25, 1857. He died in N. Dakota on May 10, 1921.

Ólafur came west to Canada in 1874 with his parents, Brynjólfur Brynjólfsson and Þórunn Ólafsdóttir, and siblings. They settled at Vatnsdal in Markland, Nova Scotia and lived there until 1881. Life’s road led the family to Duluth, Minnesota, and in 1882 to Mountain, N. Dakota. About 1886, Ólafur settled in Willow City west of Mountain where he opened and ran a store for the rest of his life.
