Ólafur was the son of Jón Jónsson of Dalasýsla and Helga Jakobína Ólafsdóttir from Bjarnastaðir in Hvítársíða, early pioneers in the Akra Settlement in N. Dakota. Sigríður was the daughter of Stefán Jónsson and Hólmfríður Hansdóttir of Borgarfjörður who were married in N. Dakota on January 18, 1889 and settled in Upham. Ólafur was a bank employee in Souris, N. Dakota and lived in Upham for a few years before moving to Long Beach, California. Shortly after Ólafur’s death, Sigríður moved to Minneapolis where her sons, Stefán and Donald, lived.
