Ásmundur emigrated west to Winnipeg, Manitoba in 1878, stayed for a while in the city but then went south to N. Dakota. He was there when Ósk moved west there in 1883, the same year as her parents, Teitur Teitsson and Anna Stefánsdóttir. Ásmundur and Ósk settled in the Icelandic settlement and lived in a turf house.
