She came west to Winnipeg, Manitoba with her brother Kristján in 1903. Her other brothers, Gísli and Vilhjálmur, as well as her father, Grímur Snjólfsson, had come west to Winnipeg a few years earlier. Pálína was in poor health and stayed with Stefán Ólafsson and his wife, Petrína Vigfúsdóttir, in the Lundar Settlement. Grímur and Gísli also lived there.
