Páll Kristjánsson was born in Eyjafjarðarsýsla in 1858. He took the last name Kjærnested or Kernested in the west. He died in the Narrows on February 14, 1932.

Páll and Sesselja came west to Winnipeg, Manitoba in 1876 and settled in New Iceland. The road led from there south to N. Dakota where Sesselja and little Kristján died. Páll and Guðný moved to the Lundar Settlement in Manitoba in 1889 and from there to the Narrows Settlement in 1892.
