Petrína’s parents were Baldvin Árnason (Capt. Baldvin Anderson) and Guðrún Jónsdóttir. Guðjón was the son of Jóhann Pétur Árnason and Dóróthea Soffía Abrahamsdóttir, pioneer settlers at Espihóli in the Víðines settlement in New Iceland. Guðjón took over farming after his father died at Espihóli and was successful. For a time, he ran a large dairy farm and fished in Lake Winnipeg.
