Petrína Guðmundsdóttir was born in 1875 in S. Þingeyjarsýsla. She died in the Lakes settlement (Vatnabyggð) in Saskatchewan on January 21, 1928.

They came west to Winnipeg, Manitoba in 1893 and soon moved to Kristína Þorsteinsdóttir and her husband in N. Dakota. She was Steingrímur’s sister and came west in 1878 with her husband, Sigurður Kráksson, and son Halldór. Steingrímur looked around N. Dakota until 1895 but moved to the Icelandic community in Roseau, Minnesota. He took land there and tried farming, but the land was poor and almost nothing could be cultivated, let alone animals. They moved back to Winnipegosis, Manitoba in 1897, and from there on May 17, 1905 to the Lakes settlement (Vatnabyggð) in Saskatchewan, settling in the Wynyard community.
