Pétur emigrated with his parents to the west in 1876 and lived in Winnipeg. In 1878, the family moved to the Lincoln County Settlement in Minnesota and later to the Lyon County Settlement. Pétur’s father died in 1881 and he moved with his mother and siblings to Marshall, Minnesota. Pétur completed a theology degree, was ordained as a pastor and moved to Iowa. He served several parishes, and lived in Grinnell, Iowa.
