Pétur Árnason was born on November 28, 1884 in N. Múlasýsla. He died in Minnesota in 1953. He took the name Petur Magnuson in the west.

Pétur came west in 1887 with his parents, Árni Magnússon and Sigurbjörg Árnadóttir. They settled in Lincoln County, Minnesota and that is where Pétur grew up. Sigurbjörg was the daughter of Ríkharð Jóhannsson and Herborgur Sigurðardóttir who settled in Minnesota in 1887. Pétur and Sigurbjörg lived on land just north of Taunton in Lyon County, but moved to Minneota in 1925.
