Pétur Árnason was born on October 27, 1864 in Húnavatnssýsla. He died in San Diego, California in 1932.

Pétur came west to Winnipeg, Manitoba in 1882. There he worked various jobs for the next few years, but after marrying Gróa, they moved to the Þingvalla Settlement in Saskatchewan in 1888. He moved with little Hallgrímur to the Lundar Settlement and settled there. He lived in the village until 1920, but then moved to Selkirk. After a short stay there, in 1924, he moved with Kristbjörg and his youngest children to California.
