He came west to Winnipeg, Manitoba in 1876 and traveled to New Iceland. He spent the first winter in Sandvík north of Gimli. Pétur moved to Winnipeg and lived there three years. He later moved to the Árnes Settlement in New Iceland and lived there the rest of his life.
