Pétur and Sigþrúður emigrated west in 1875 with Einar, Sigþrúðar’s brother. They were part of the first group to settle in New Iceland on October 1, 1875. They took land in Breiðuvík in the Hnausa Settlement and called their land Eyrarbakki. After a number of years, they took land south of Cavalier, N. Dakota. In 1901, Pétur moved west to Seattle. He bought land in 1909 in Birch Bay and spent the rest of his years there.
