Pétur Hanson

ID: 19168
Date of birth : 1846
Place of birth : Danmörk

Pétur Hanson was born in Denmark in 1846. He used the name Petur Hanson or Hans P. Hanson in the west.

Spouse: Klementína Ingibjörg Magnúsdóttir b. 1863 in Húnavatnssýsla. She was known as Emma or Clementina Hanson in the west.

Children: 1. Emil b. 1886 2. Clements W. b. 1888 3. Magdalena Laura b. 1890 4. Albert George b. 1893.

Klementína came west to Canada in 1875 with her father, Magnús Brynjólfsson, his wife, Elísabet Klemensdóttir and half-siblings. They settled in Markland, Nova Scotia and named their land Bólstaðarhlíð. Life’s road took them west to N. Dakota. It is not clear where Pétur and Ingibjörg’s paths lay, she probably went to Duluth in Minnesota from 1883 and is where the children were born. Western sources say that Pétur had an Icelandic mother and a Danish father. Nothing is known about his journey west, but in the 1895 Census in Minnesota, he lived in Duluth with Clementine and children and worked as a shoemaker. They have a Sadie Brynjolfson living with them who could be Sigríður, Klementína’s half-sister.
