Pétur Jónsson was born at Hóll in Skagafjarðarsýsla on April 10, 1853. He died on July 29, 1926 in N. Dakota. He took the last name Hillman (Hóll) in the west.
Spouse: 1) Ólöf Kjartansdóttir b. 1843 2) 1885 Valgerður Sigurðardóttir b. September 26, 1854 in Dalasýsla, d. May 26, 1929.
Children: With Ólöf: 1. Rögnvaldur Gísli b. 1872. Ólöf had a daughter earlier, María Rögnvaldsdóttir b. 1867. With Valgerður: 1. Þorsteinn 2. Pétur Bjarni d. in the Mouse River Settlement in 1922 3. Jakobína 4. Una Margrét d. 1906 5. Sigurður Theodor 6. Valgerður 7. Egill Finnbogi.
Pétur emigrated west to Ontario in 1874 with Ólöf, Jón’s brother, and his elderly father, Jón Rögnvaldsson. They first went to Kinmount before moving east to Markland, Nova Scotia where they lived at Laufskógum. In 1880, they moved west to Winnipeg, Manitoba. A year later, Pétur took land in the Akra Settlement in N. Dakota.
