Rafn Jónsson was born in Dalasýsla August 11, 1833. He died in Gimli August 11, 1904.
Spouse: 1) Ingibjörg Þorvaldsdóttir b. October 25, 1858. They divorced in Iceland. 2) 1873 in Parry Sound Rósa Jónsdóttir b. January 8, 1848, d. at the Betel care home in Gimli July 27, 1930.
Children: 1. Hólmfríður b. September 27, 1870, d. November 14, 1876 of smallpox in New Iceland 2. Pétur Friðhólm b. in Gimli January 9, 1878 3. Þórdís Anna b. May 31, 1879 4. Valdimar b. 1888 5. Guðrún Sigurlína b. December 2, 1891.
Rósa and Rafn emigrated to Ontario, Canada in 1873 and moved to Parry Sound. Rafn worked there in logging and in the sawmill. In 1875 they moved with the first settlers to New Iceland and settled at Gimli. The first years of the new Icelandic settlement were difficult and many became overwhelmed. Rósa and Rafn moved from Gimli to Winnipeg in the fall of 1879. They returned to New Iceland and settled in the Fljóts Settlement in 1885 and in January, 1888 settled in the Isafold Settlement.
