After completing his studies and working at various jobs in Iceland, Ragnar came west to Winnipeg in 1910. There he worked at one job or another until he joined the Canadian Forces in 1916. He was first in the military police and later in the secret service. In 1919 he joined the Winnipeg City Police, and was an undercover police officer from 1926. He was the chairman of the Police Association in St. Boniface. He retired in 1956. Carolína was the daughter of Ólafur S. Thorgeirsson, a printer in Winnipeg, and Jakobína Jakobsdóttir.
