Ragnar Sigurður Ólafsson was born on March 18, 1882 in Skagafjarðarsýsla. He died in the Brown Settlement in 1951. He took the names Sigurður R. Ólafsson and Siggi Olafson in the west.

Ragnar came west in 1877 with his parents, Ólafur Árnason and Ragnheiður Ósk Sigurðardóttir. They settled in the Akra Settlement in N. Dakota and lived there until 1899, then moved to the Brown Settlement in Manitoba. Anna was the daughter of Helgi Jónsson and Guðrún Einarsdóttir. In 1905, Ragnar moved south to N. Dakota, bought land there, and cleared it. He sold it and moved back to the Brown Settlement where he bought land, worked it for a few years, then sold it and bought land in the same settlement. He lived there after that.
