Ragnheiður came to Canada in 1909 and was accompanied by her two youngest sons, Jón and Jón Kristján. They are said to have sailed on the “Grampian” from Glasgow and arrived in the Port of Quebec on May 10 and soon settled in Tantallon, Saskatchewan. Jón returned to Iceland in 1911 and went to sea off the Westmann Islands in 1913. Earlier, two of Ragnheiður’s children had come west by sea, Guðmundur Júlíus in 1893 and later her daughter Anna, uncertain when but she is registered in a marriage in the west in 1903. For information, Anna baptized her son Otto Wathne, but she had probably done so out of respect and gratitude to her father’s sister Guðrún Jónsdóttir, who was married to Otto Wathne, the entrepreneur in Seyðisfjörður but the couple had no children. *

* Information above came from Þórður Jónsson; Ragnheiður was his great-grandmother.
