Rósa was the daughter of Hermann Guðmundsson and Guðrún Snjólaug Jónsdóttir. They met in N. Dakota and married there, moved north to Winnipeg Beach in 1886, and lived there the rest of their lives. Both of them were musical and their home became a center of music and Rósa grew up there.
