Rósa came west to N. Dakota with her mother, Sigríður Árnadóttir, in 1882, They settled in the Garðar Settlement. Ólafur emigrated west to New Iceland with his parents, Guðmundur Pétursson and Þorbjörg Finnbogadóttir. They moved to N. Dakota in 1882 and homesteaded northwest of Mountain. Ólafur and Rósa moved west to Markerville, Alberta in 1900 but moved from there in 1910 and homesteaded in the Vatnabyggð (Lakes Settlement) in Saskatchewan.
