Rósa Jónsdóttir was born in Húnavatnssýsla on January 8, 1848. She died at Betel Care Home in Gimli on July 27, 1930.

Rósa and Rafn came west to Ontario, Canada in 1873 and traveled to Parry Sound. There Rafn worked in logging and in a sawmill, but in 1875, they moved with the first group to New Iceland and settled in the Víðirnes Settlement. The difficulties of the first years in the new Icelandic settlement became too much for many, and they moved from there to Winnipeg in the autumn of 1879. They returned to New Iceland and settled in the Fljóts Settlement in 1885 and in January, 1888 they settled in the Ísafold Settlement.
