Sesselja Jónsdóttir was born on February 26, 1868 in Rangárvallasýsla. She died in Spanish Fork on September 3, 1914.

Sesselja was the daughter of Jón Pétursson and Guðný Eiríksdóttir but was placed in foster care with Bjarni Bjarnason at two years of age. She emigrated west with him and his children to Utah in 1886. When Sesselja became ill, Vigdís Björnsdóttir took her in, as she was sometimes called the “Icelandic doctor” in Utah. Sesselja fully recovered, married, and had many children. They lived in several places in Utah but the longest in Spanish Fork.
