Sigbjörn Arngrímsson was born in Garðar, N. Dakota on October 14, 1886. He died in Saskatchewan on April 13, 1959.

Sigbjörn was not 10 years old when his father, Arngrímur Arngrímsson, died in Garðar where the family lived. Sigbjörn grew up with this mother and siblings, but on October 28, 1905, he settled on his land north of Mozart, Saskatchewan. His brothers, Stefán, Sigurður and Jón, accompanied him and they all settled there. Their mother, Þorbjörg Magnúsdóttir, moved there a year later with her daughter Soffía.
