Sigfinnur Pétursson was born in N. Múlasýsla on July 10, 1838. He died on December 11, 1915.

Sigfinnur and Sigurbjörg emigrated west to the Lincoln County Settlement in Minnesota in 1878. With them were foster children Elín Sigurbjörnsdóttir, Ingibjörg and Guðbjörg Jósefsdóttir, their mother was Kristín Pétursdóttir, Sigfinnur’s sister. Also with them were Sigurbjörg’s sons Halli b. 1869 and Jörgen b. 1871 Björnsson. They also adopted a daughter, Bertha Armstrong, born in 1892 and James McCready. Both had an Icelandic mother.
