Sigmundur Sigurðsson was born on October 23, 1869 in Húnavatnssýsla. He died in Blaine, Washington on October 10, 1944. He took the last name Laxdal in the west.

Sigmundur came west in 1888 to N. Dakota with his parents, Sigurður Sigurðsson and María Guðmundsdóttir. Sigríður traveled there in the same year from Ísafjörður. They lived in the Garðar Settlement until 1940, then moved west to the Pacific and settled in Blaine, Washington.
