Sigríður came west with her young son in 1888. They first lived in New Iceland where she married Þorsteinn. After his death she lived briefly in N. Dakota, but then landed on the north bank of the Assiniboine River in the Hóla Settlement in Manitoba. There was a hill and was a very historical place from the 18th century. She lived there for a few years but later moved in with her son.
