Sigríður Björnsdóttir was born in Skagafjarðarsýsla in 1873. She died in Portage la Prairie, Manitoba on September 10, 1948.
Spouse: 1896 Gunnar Þorbergsson b. January 6, 1865 in N. Múlasýslu, d. in Mountain, N. Dakota on January 31, 1937. He took the name Gunnar Th. Oddsson in the west.
Children: 1. Jónína b. 1896, d. 1902 2. Jónína Sigríður (Sigrid) b. 1906 3. Dóra Þorbjörg b. 1910.
Sigríður came west from Sleitustaðir in 1876 with her parents, Björn Jónsson and Sigríður Þorláksdóttir. Gunnar came west to Winnipeg in 1887, together with his mother, Guðbjörg Ögmundsdóttir, and four siblings. Gunnar and his brother Jóhann worked at various farms in the Álftavatn Settlement and Keewatin in Ontario. Jóhann moved to N. Dakota in 1895, followed some advice and took land there. A year later Gunnar moved there, married Sigríður, and rented land near Hallson. They lived there until 1899, then moved to the Brown Settlement where the family lived for 27 years. The couple then moved to Hallson, N. Dakota, where they lived a number years before ending up in Mountain, N. Dakota. Sigríður died at the home of her daughter, Dóra Þorbjörg in Manitoba.
