Sigríður was a widow when she came west in 1878, traveling with her daughter, Guðbjörg, and her husband, Magnús Jónasson, and their children, Jónas and Sigríður. Sigríður lived with them at Grenimörk in New Iceland. She worked for many years as a midwife in the Hnausa Settlement and there she rests her bones.
