Snæbjörn came west with his parents, Snorri Jónsson and Kristana Sigurðardóttir, in 1883. They took land in New Iceland and Snæbjörn grew up in the Ísafold Settlement in his father’s house. He moved with them to the Víðir-and-Sand Hill Settlement and lived there. Sigríður came west in 1882 with her mother Kristjana Ólafsdóttir and her brother Hannes. Her father, Jón Jónasson, had come west the year before. They all settled in the Ísafold Settlement. Snæbjörn and Kristjana lived on Snæbjörn’s family farm in the Víðir Settlement.
