Egill was the son of Jóhannn Ingjaldsson and Björg Erlendsdóttir, early settlers in the Árnes Settlement. Sigríður was the daughter of Jón Jónsson and his first wife, Guðfinna. Sigríður came west with her father and his second wife, Arndís Guðmundsdóttir, and siblings. They came to Winnipeg, Manitoba in 1903 and moved from there to the Argyle Settlement. Later, they moved to Elfros in the Lakes Settlement (Vatnabyggð) in Saskatchewan. Egill and Sigríður lived there the first years, then moved in 1927 to Vallar.
