They came west to Winnipeg, Manitoba árið 1878 and moved to Mikley in New Iceland. They lived there 24 years, the moved in 1902 to the Lundar Settlement. There Jón opened a post office and name it Hof but it was distorted and became Hove. In Western Icelandic sources, the name Hove is used extensively about the countryside where Jón lived. In 1913 they moved back to Lake Winnipeg and lived north of Gimli.
