Sigríður came west to Winnipeg, Manitoba in 1893 while Jón arrived there in 1894 with his father Einar Eiríksson and his foster daughter Margrét Jónsdóttir. Jón settled in the Árnes Settlement in New Iceland but moved to Red Deer Point in 1903, took land, built up a farm and named it Brautarholt. He moved from there in 1912 to Winnipegosis.
