Sigríður was the daughter of Kristjón Finnsson and Sigríðar Halldórsdóttir who lived in Mikley. Gunnlaugur came west with his parents, Guðmundur Marteinsson and Kristín Gunnlaugsdóttir, and siblings in 1878. They moved to the Hnausa Settlement and named their land Garð.
