Sigríður Pálmadóttir was born in Húnavatnssýsla on December 24, 1891. She died in Winnipeg on September 5, 1957. She took the last name Johnson with marriage.

Sigríður was the daughter of Pálmi Lárusson and Guðrún Steinsdóttir who came west in 1893 and lived for a long time in Gimli. Magnús’ parents were Egill Jónsson and Ragnhildur Magnúsdóttir from Flekkuvík in Húnavatnssýsla. Sigríður and Magnús first lived in Winnipeg where Magnús worked at the Bardal funeral home. From there they moved to Árnes in New Iceland to help Magnús’ parents with farming. From there they moved to Riverton and lived there until 1942 when they returned to Winnipeg.
