They came west to Winnipeg, Manitoba in 1887. They took land the same year in the Þingvalla settlement in Saskatchewan. They farmed for a number of years, but, due to Halldór’s illness, they moved to the small town of Saltcoats. Halldór opened a hardware store and ran it until his death. After he died, Sigríður moved to Winnipeg where their four children lived.
