Sigrún was the daughter of Guðjón Arngrímsson from Búastaðir in Vopnafjörður and Sigurborg Sigurðardóttr at Egilsstaðir in Vopnafjörður. The family took the last name Anderson in Minnesota. Kristinn was the son of Kristinn Ólafsson and Katrín Ólafsdóttir who came west to Wisconsin in 1873. Kristinn grew up in N. Dakota, got higher education and became a pastor.
