Sigfinnur and Sigurbjörg emigrated west to Lincoln county in Minnesota in 1878. With them were three foster children, Elín Sigurbjörnsdóttir and the sisters Ingibjörg and Guðbjörg Jósefs daughters. Their mother was Kristín Pétursdóttir, Sigfinnur´s sister. Also both sons of Sigurbjörg from her previous marriage Halli b. 1869 and Jörgen f. 1871. They adopted a girl by the name, Bertha b.1892 and a boy, James McCready (1900) both of whom had an Icelandic mother.
