Sigurður Árni Vigfússon was born in N. Múlasýsla in 1873. He took the last name Anderson in the west.

Sigurður came west to Minnesota in 1880 with his father, Vigfús Andrésson, future stepmother, Sigríður Jóhannesdóttir, and siblings. He was well educated, turned to business in Minneota, and was the CEO of “Big Store” and served on the boards of Minneota Milling Company and Minneota Telephone Company.
