Sigfús grew up in the Fljóts Settlement but moved from there, with his parents, Sigfús Pétursson and Þóra Sveinsdóttir, in 1905 and took land in the Víðir-Sand Hills Settlement. Aldís was the daughter of Magnús Þorgilsson and Ragnheiður Jónsdóttir.
