Sigurður Jónsson was born in Winnipeg in 1887. He died in the Lundar Settlement in 1959. He had the name Sam Johnson in the west.
Spouse: 1910 Margrét Bjarnadóttir b. in E. Skaftafellssýsla in 1881.
Children: 1. Mary b. 1911 2. David Thorleifur b. 1913, d. 1934 3. Sigmar b. 1915.
Sigurður moved with his parents, Auðunn Jónsson and Sigríður Erlendsdóttir, to New Iceland where he grew up. Margrét was the daughter of Bjarni Jónsson and his wife Margrét Þorsteinsdóttir at Bæ in E. Skaftafellssýsla. Margrét came west to Winnipeg, Manitoba in 1901 and first lived in that city. He moved west to Spokane, Washington for a few years, but then moved back to Manitoba. Sigurður and Margrét began farming in Winnipeg, but then moved north to the Árnes Settlement in New Iceland where they lived for a number of years. They moved to the Lundar Settlement in 1917.
